Neil Ressler Symposium
Physics and Technology of Motorsports

The Physics Department sponsored a day-long symposium on the Physics and Technology of Motorsports in April, 2002. This event was in honor of Neil Ressler, retired vice president for Research and Vehicle Technology at Ford Motor Company, who received his doctorate in 1967 from the Department.
The Symposium exposed both physics and engineering students to the wide-ranging impact that physics has on society. The event also provided an interesting insight to members of our greater community on the importance of continually advancing the frontiers of science and technology.
The program for the day covered topics that span aerodynamics, materials, biomechanics, the UM Solar Car and the interface between racing and consumer products. Several distinguished speakers, panelists and guests who have helped define the sport of racing, as well as several scientists and engineers who have used racing to advance technology participated in the sessions of the day. Please see the Symposium program for more details.
