Undergraduates concentrating in physics have five degree choices:
There is also an Honors Concentration in physics, and a Physics and Society option offered in collaboration with the Residential College. Interested undergraduates may also want to look into work in medical physics (a promising path for pre-med students) in the Applied Physics program, or in the Engineering Physics program.The analytical and quantitative thinking skills you will develop as you work toward any of these degrees will be of great value in many different careers. Most physics majors at UM follow one (or more) of three paths after graduation:

graduate work in physics or another field
- employment in industry, software development, or associated field
- professional school in medicine, business, law, or associated area

Welcome to the Physics Department at the University of Michigan. U-M has one of the country's premier programs for the training of graduate students in physics, coupled with a very active and diversified research endeavor.
Ph.D. Requirements (in a nutshell)To acquire the Ph.D. Degree in Physics, you must be admitted to candidacy for the Ph.D. program, successfully complete 68 fee hours of courses, pass one 600-level course (of at least 2 credit hours) with a grade equivalent of B (5.0) or better, and submit a dissertation on original research in physics and successfully defend it before your Dissertation Committee.
HousingPlease direct all housing inquiries to the University of Michigan Housing Office, 1011 Student Activities Building. In addition to private rentals and cooperative living arrangements, the University offers both on-campus single student housing and on-campus married student housing.
